5 questions and 1 piece of advice: Desirée Vila

Today I bring you one of those athletes with an inspiring story, one of those that move you. An athlete who overcame all the barriers of effort to take her place among the great athletes. Today I bring you one of the best Galician Paralympic athletes, who already has her place in the Paralympic Games in Tokyo 2021. Desirée Vila started practicing acrobatic gymnastics at a very high level, but a fall and a medical error changed her life forever and ever as she had to have a leg amputated. After trying several sports, in 2018 she started with athletics and from there she reached the highest in speed and long jump. Three years ago he published an autobiographical book, The only incurable is the will to live, in which he narrates the adaptation to the new way of life. So here you have five questions and one piece of advice from Desi Vila, enjoy!

- Of all the sports, why did you choose athletics?

I chose athletics by chance, because I knew I wanted to start running and one day my orthopedist put me the sports prosthesis and I started little by little. Then I met a Paralympic athlete, he showed me the CAR of Madrid and his training group and I started with them. As I liked it a lot, I decided to compete and that's how it is today.

- What do you think is the most important condition to be a good athlete and why?

I think it is important to be constant (not only for sports, but for everything in general). This is essential because in the world of sport, especially in high performance, things do not always go well, there are injuries in between, complicated moments, days without motivation ... and there and when it is most important to be consistent, and that is what makes the difference between a good athlete and a normal athlete.

- How is a typical week of training for you?

There isn't a typical week because it depends on many factors: phase of the season, if there are injuries, if there are competitions... But normally I train 6 days a week (I rest on Sunday), three of them are long jump sessions, one of them long speed, one of them short speed.... In all the training sessions we include technique and strength (gym) and then things like plyometrics depend on what we are looking for in each season.

- What are your goals for Tokyo 2021?

My goals: to arrive in shape, to do my best, to position myself at international level and to enjoy the experience.

- Who is your biggest reference in the world of sport?

Many athletes, for example Carolina Marín, Alfonso Cabello, Almudena Cid...

- What advice would you give to an athlete who wants to succeed in their sport?

Look for a sport that they are passionate about, don't compare yourself, try to be better every day, make an effort in every training, be willing to learn and keep improving, and little by little the results will come.

I hope you liked it and see you soon!
