5 questions and 1 piece of advice: Marta Pen

Hello to all!

I decided to start this project, "5 questions and 1 advice", as an attempt to know what other runners think or experience and compare it with our own feelings; and also, somehow, get in touch with athletes from other places and get to know a little more about them. I don't know where this will lead or if it will have much future but here it begins, and with one of the great ones too!

Marta Pen is a Portuguese athlete with a spectacular international and Olympic career. She was six times national champion (holding the Portuguese mile record), represented Portugal in the 2016 Olympics in the 1500m race and in 2016 she won the NCAA outdoor champioships among many other achievements.

When did you start running and why?

I started competitive athletics at the age of 12/13. I started because of school sports.

What was the best moment of your sports career? And the worst?

I have many moments that were important to me. Many of mine, others from teammates. Winning the NCAA and qualifying for the Olympics are probably some of those moments.

How did the pandemic affect you in terms of training? How do you see the future of athletics with the coronavirus?

I honestly don't know. But I do know that organizations and athletes are doing their best to continue to create great competitive moments.

What advice would you give to a teenage runner?

To have fun! There are no great results without a balanced life. It's important to have discipline in training, but also to have time to do everything a normal teenager does.

There is time for everything because everything has its time.

Anyway, that's it for today.

A hug and see you soon!
